The Lutfia Rabbani Foundation is proud to support DOX in particular the exchange project with KOON theater in Beirut, Lebanon. The aim of this international exchange program with culturally different countries was to impact the Dutch cultural world with new influences and approaches.

DOX
DOX is a cultural institution with an exceptional position in the Netherlands focusing on youngsters, new theatre makers and “the new Dutch people” with a broad cultural background.

Project description
KOON Theatre is a Lebanese group of multi-talented artists coming from various disciplines, led by theatre maker Ossama Halal (from Syria), and striving to expand the circuit of theatrical and cultural work, especially in the disadvantaged areas that are deprived from culture and infrastructure. Their approach fits very well with the goals of DOX.

KOON Theatre and DOX decided to cooperate on an exchange program called ”Grand Voyages”, with a mixed cast of performers. Three Lebanese performers and three DOX talents performed with Ossama Halal and with DOX choreographer Ryan Djojokarso under the artistic guidance of DOX artistic director Hildegard Draaijer and with technical guidance of KOON’s technical director. During the Dancing on the Edge festival in November they carried out their performances.

Performers of KOON were: Stephanie Kayal, Antoine Bouguier, Sarah Mashmoushy. Performers of DOX: Hani Andary, Nadine Wijshof, Turbo van Ommeren.

The project was an explicit and ultimate exchange between two cultures, where artists with different cultural backgrounds from Lebanon and Holland created artistic collaboration and partnerships, got to know each other’s theatrical approaches, and exchanged their artistic language.
