Lutfia Rabbani Travel Grant

Travel Grants are open to nationals of:

• The Netherlands; or
• Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco,
  Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia,
  United Arab Emirates, or Yemen.

In the spirit of Euro-Arab exchange, our travel grants are designed to support Dutch applicants traveling to the Arab world, and Arab applicants traveling to the Netherlands.

Applicants should be students or professionals with a clear academic or professional purpose for their travel. Eligible activities may include: research, internships, study, workshops, exhibitions, or other academic, cultural, or professional activities that align with the Foundation’s mission.

Please note: Travel Grants are not available for leisure travel or activities without a clear academic, cultural or professional purpose.

Travel Grants of up to €2000 (two thousand euros) are available to help cover approved travel-related expenses.

Please keep in mind:

• Applications submitted with a budget exceeding €2000 will not be considered. Funding is limited to expenses included in the proposed and approved travel budget.
• Grants cannot be awarded retrospectively for travel that has already taken place.

We accept Travel Grant applications during several application ‘windows’ throughout the year. Please apply during the cycle that correspond with your intended travel dates: 

* Please make sure that you apply within the cycle corresponding to your intended travel dates (see table above). We cannot consider applications submitted too far in advance or requests for funding after travel has already taken place. If you have been offered an exceptional, time-sensitive academic opportunity outside these application cycles, please  contact us  to discuss whether your application may be considered.  

Please have the following documents ready:

• Motivation Letter
• Current CV
• Estimated Budget using the Foundation’s
  Budget Template

As part of the application form, you will also be asked to provide:

• A brief description of your proposed project or activity.
• The purpose and expected outcomes of your travel.
• The potential impact of the experience.
• Your proposed travel schedule and activities.
• Any potential risks and how these will be addressed.

Applicants are reviewed by the Foundation’s Selection Committee. The Selection Committee considers the following:

• Academic and/or professional merit.
• Financial need.
• The quality and purpose of the proposed activity.
• The potential impact of the experience on the applicant’s academic or professional development.
• The extent to which the proposed travel contributes to the Foundation’s mission of strengthening dialogue and understanding between Europe and the Arab World.

Within one month of completing their travel, recipients are required to submit a short report reflecting on their experience, together with photographs of their work and activities.

The Foundation may edit and share these stories through its website, social media and other communications, helping us demonstrate the impact of the programme and inspire future participants.

Returning grant recipients will be invited to join the Foundation’s alumni network for peer connections, exclusive event invitations, and ongoing career resources.

Once an application has been approved, grantees will be expected to sign and return our Terms and Conditions to secure the first installment of their grant.
