Alaa Minawi was our 2017-2018 MSR scholar. Today he launched his new performative installation ‘2048: Bodies – Borders – Belonging’ that can be seen at the Amsterdam Fringe festival until September 8th. As Alaa describes it, 2048 “is a performative installation that takes the spectator into the world of stateless. Its freedoms and limitations. Through it, it tries to question the value of identity, maps, and borders in achieving belonging. It takes no-mans land as a space to start from.” This installation is part of Alaa’s focus on “the existential and philosophical aspect of belonging presented in the form of an inquisitive installation”. We are happy to follow his journey as our alumni scholar! Check out his project and read more about the exhibition here.
