In recognition and honour of Mr. Pieter Vreede (1926 – 2008) who dedicated his working life as a judge and lawyer specializing in international law, an annual scholarship is available for Arab law students attending the prestigious annual summer programme of the Hague Academy of International Law that takes place each year at the Peace Palace in The Hague, The Netherlands.
These are the profiles of the 2015 Vreede scholars.
Tarek Teras
Tarek is a 31 years old Kuwaiti. He is currently working on his PhD that focuses on the relationship between public and private antitrust enforcement in a comparative study between European and American antitrust legal systems. The opportunity to follow the course at The Hague Academy of International Law will allow Tarek to strengthen his knowledge on this topic.
Abuznaid Abuznaid
Abuznaid is a 43 year old Palestinian legal consultant for the Palestinian Civil Police as well as a member of a special committee preparing Palestinian police laws and bylaws. He is a very ambitious officer looking to improve himself and gain extra knowledge in the field of international law. The opportunity to follow the course at The Hague Academy of International Law will allow Abuznaid to get a better understanding of the legal points for the Palestinian issue in the international law.
Toufik El Hajj
Toufik is a Lebanese activist in the field of human rights as well as a captain in the Lebanese Interior Security Forces (ISF) where he holds the position of chief of financial and administrative department. Toufik is also Professor of law at the Lebanese American University and the ISF institute. The opportunity to follow the course at The Hague Academy of International Law will allow Toufik the opportunity to deepen his knowledge in the field of human rights. We will me meeting them as usual around a lunch when they are in The Hague.
